At the Economic Development meeting at City Hall tonight, it was revealed that due to conditions of the Economic Development Grant for $280,000 that were not spelled out initially, it is unclear whether the developers of the Economy Store project will be able to utilize this money, and thus the scope and financing of the project are under review.
Developers, city officials as well as consultants and financiers will be gathering next week to discuss what it possible. At this time it appears that the financing as well as the scope of the project are in flux.
Stay tuned.
Would you please tell us what is not spelled out? I personally don't see office space as keeping the down town ' alive' anyway. Why is it Evansville can not attract cute little shops like New Glarus or Stoughton? I wish the city would quit throwing money at business's that are just office space and invest some money in business's that would bring more people to town to shop.
ReplyDeleteThey say they don't want the down town to 'die' it feels like it already has.
I will tell you why they can't attract any ' cute' shops, they don't wamt to, they have no interest in having small retail shops, that very clear to see by their actions, and what they support. The pharmacy has always been here, and more than likely always will, but its not unique either. Its to bad because towns like New Glarus, and Stoughton bring in alot of money with the different festivals they have through out the year, New Glarus from Spring- Fall has something going on every other weekend, but first you have to have a ' draw' and Evansville just does not have it, and is not willing to work to get it., to bad to waste all that space on offices, I agree the down town is ' dead '. What a waste.
