"The recent talk of a Entertainment Center in Evansville has pitted Corporate vs. Ma and Pa. We all know who eventually wins this war, but in this case I think I'll side with Goliath. I know nothing of what this proposed Entertainment Center is, other than reading the Plan Commissions minutes last week. I pondered this Entertainment Center over a pudding cup and came to the conclusion that "Yes", Evansville is ready for this.

If you look at the small city growth protocol, three things need to happen before a family based Entertainment facility can be approved. First, you need more residents than horses, ( Evansville exceeded this in 1993 ). Second, an Irish fast food place, and last but not least, show me the stoplights. O.K. now that that's covered, here are the facts as I see them..........................................................

Before I getting rolling, I saw the audio posts for the pro and con of this Entertainment Center, I didn't check them out so I could keep my perspective untainted. Here is my take nonetheless. Pete's and The Night Owl. I have been to both establishments. They're bars, big suprise! I have never had the urge to invite family and friends to either of these places soley for the obvious reason that I mentioned above. They're bars, though I will cut some slack for The Night Owl during the daytime, those fries sure are good. Smokey, sometimes rowdy, adult oriented, places I would Never take my kids. I am not everyone, these places attract many loyal customers and run nice establishments. There will always be bars.

Like I said I don't know the intricate details of the back and forth on this Entertainment Center proposal, so bear with me. I wish the city would make this new Entertainment Facility Smoke Free, even in an area where alcohol might be served. I go to Madison or Janesville to bowl or eat, it's so much more enjoyable not to have to breath in that nasty (xxxxx). Pete's and The Night Owl will always have patrons, always. On the other hand, the people who are moving into the city are not going to Pete's or The Night Owl with there families. They go to Madison or J-town for family fun. What does Evansville have to offer families for fun? Evansville will go through a metamorphosis in the years to come. All the things that Anytown USA has, will be coming here. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but with continued development, The Field of Dreams law of reason will come into play.

I hope they have a pool table at this new Entertainment Center, but most important to me, I hope that Evansvilles' identity doesn't get washed away like sediment into Lake Leota.

For shame I thought maybe a business owner can make his own decision when it come down to his own bottom line. If you feel so strong then maybe you should build your own smoke free facility.

These small bar owners may do them selves in with thinking there is not enough room in this town for them and this entertainment center. People have the right to go out for a day or night of fun without choking on second hand smoke. I do strongly believe that if the people who had purposed this 'entertainment center' were to go back again to the council with a different acceptable location it would be approved in a a unanimious vote. This town desperately needs something like this.

I agree amy people have the right to be smoke free in their own homes and in a public setting (i.e. city hall), not in someone's establishment, ran with their own money, in their own building they they own themselves. if the AMF people decide to go smoke free great but we (city government) can not tell them they have to be. by the way i have never smoked in my life.
