On Madonna Marketing

In traditional marketing in the "news" biz, it has always been about the "bad" news, the tragedy, the scandal, and then there is the weather. People always bemoan about the "good news." In most media, that is not news. In some of The Observer that good news is the sketches of our locals, such as X19 or John Jones, or Fr. Erbe.

It would be nice if the content of discussion were so stimulating that one never needed scandal or woe to increase circulation. Wish on.

Many famous artists, whether Elvis or Madonna or even some local bloggers, have used what I call "Madonna" marketing. O.K. some of you would prefer to call it "Cher" marketing. It just consists of using distraction such as the lack of clothing or toilet talk to cover for the lack of content. Gradually, even Madonna, became more conservative in her dress and presentation. Even now as we speak, she has strict rules for what her kids can watch. On the banned list are most of her early videos.

So, in summary, I have a lot of hope for our local blog media. O.K. I have lost hope in Howard Stern but he ain't local. Most will follow Madonna's lead and become conservative in their old age of late 20's. Keep blogging.
