Monroe: School Cuts Draw Large Crowd to 6:45AM meeting

A very large crowd of students, former students, teachers and parents gathered at the Monroe PAC to give input on the looming cuts for Monroe Schools. The possiblity of a referendum was introduced.

In the timeline, for Monroe, the decisions on cuts were made by the school Board in February but only announced to the public in October at the annual meeting. In the prior school year it appears that by October the former superintendent was gone to another job. Nobody has taken responsibility for the prior deficit that was not revealed to the school board or the public since the treasurer of the district stated that he reported to the superintendent directly and not the school board.

At the candidates meeting for the Evansville School District, The Observer asked Mr. Larson and Supr. Carvin how this situation differed from the reporting structure in Evansville. They stated that in Evansville, the treasurer would come to the board as a matter of ethics, and that the situation is not similar.
