One of the memorable moments of the riots of 1970 was the famous assault on Witte Hall. Surrounding the hall with their battons drawn and their gas cannisters at the ready, the police began tossing tear gas into the residence hall.
Then the residents began to catch the cannisters and toss them back. Stunned, the police retreated to consider what to do next.
Paul Soglin has been catching the verbal cannisters and tossing them back for decades. Click on the post and enjoy.
