  1. Lately we've heard a lot of stories about schools discontinuing the post-game handshakes because of poor behavior.

Last night on WGN there was a story about the Cal Tech basketball team which hasn't won an NCAA game in 12 years or a conference game in 21. The team has two players who scored a perfect 1600 on the SAT and 8 high school valedectorians.

After a heart-breaking 53-54 loss last week one of the opposing players shook hands in the line up and then added, "Good game. Now, go cure cancer for us."

Sportsmanship can be taught. It is most easily taught by example.

  2. Sportsmanship may start with parents and coaches but our pro players also need to set good examples for the youth as well. They see the pro players talking trash and throwing punches and they and think well it must be o.k. to act that way.

  3. Speaking of sportsmanship, our dems at the Alito hearings have shown sportsmanship only Marcus Vick and Rasheed Wallace can be proud of.
