Thats the problem with the world today. I would be proud to have any one of kids volunteer for a worthy cause regardless of my beliefs. I would be happy to know they are helping other people. Some people can find something wrong with everything. People need take the time to find the good in all, and everyone and the world would be a better place.
I agree that kids (and a lot of adults) need to learn about charity and the true spirit of giving.
But coercing third graders into supporting an organization is not the mission of the schools. This is the same argument that was argued in the opposite direction a few weeks ago over the anti-war letter writing.
We are all free to give and volunteer our resources and time. Government is not free to coerce us into supporting causes on the taxpayer's dime.
The parents who have their knickers in a twist this time should take their children by the ahnd a spend a Saturday morning ringing the bell beside their children.
