The Evansville-Albany basketball game on Tuesday night was an interesting one, and yes the Blue Devils did win, but that was not the real story. The real story was in the opening half, when the Albany team showed poise and enthusiasm in shutting down the Blue Devil offense. Big Blue did play good defense which held Albany in check, but one could not help but notice the intensity and team play of the Albany boys.
Click on the post for a full story on the changes that have happened in Albany. Half of the high school boys are out for basketball and the depth has given the whole team a sense of excitement. It was clear that the Albany coaches were letting the kids read the plays and not a lot of yelling from the bench was the Albany style. The kids seemed to thrive on the challenge.
On the Blue Devil side, once Big Blue began to run after the rebound, the whole game opened up and Albany could not handle the pace. Until that time, however, the Evansville boys were stuck outside and not able to get the ball in low. The beauty of the game was that it clearly gave both teams some areas to work on for the next couple of weeks. I expect some real intensity in practice as coaches work to get the changes they need. This is a developing story.
Maybe you were at the game the other night. What was your take on the game? The comment line is open. You make the call.
I think this was a good early challenge for Evansville, and I think that Albany must have felt pretty good about the job they did. Its fun to watch games like that.
