One of the rages in Minnesota these days is the importance of placing your child in an upscale accreditted pre-K day care center. There are waiting lists. The admission process is sometimes as selective as yes, college. Well, maybe that is a little exaggeration.
My middle daughter, Julie, of California fame, did the data research in a pre-school day care study from Northfield, Mn. Parents were very focused on placement in the "right" pre-school since it had a bearing, so they thought, on their later life success.
Click on the post for the discussion in the Pioneer Press. Maybe I missed something, but I was never in a home with plastic covered hinges. I guess I never understood that this was the indicator of "quality." Yo. I feel totally deprived.
Anyway, the prices of $225 per week ---I cannot tell how high that is related to Wisconsin prices. Somebody help me out on what the range is here.
Enjoy the article. What do you think? You make the call.
That is high compared to Evansville. Preschool runs about $125 week at a center (not sure what home daycare runs). Infants are more expensive. Last time I looked Madison was quite expensive compared to Evansville. Perhaps the "metro" area rate that is quoted is similar to Madison rates.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where the school stands with 4 year old kindergarten? I recall seeing a questionnaire sent home recently, so I am assuming that there is still a possibility of this in the future.
With all of the budget pressure the school is currently facing, I am not sure how they could reasonably add another grade.
ReplyDeleteThat is the sad thing is I don't think the school can afford this. If they were to do this at what cost? It seems as though when ever this district is under preassure they look to make cuts where they can least afford it, the at risk programs. They can't afford that either. I think it needs to wait until they can comfortably do this. Besides four year kindergarten should be just that, not a alternative to paying daycare. Let four year olds be four year olds.
