WATERCOOLER: Should regulation be reimposed on the gas industry?

The Capital Times this morn has an interesting opinion article suggesting that in light of the price gouging that is currently taking place at the pumps, it is time for the government to restore regulations on price, mark up, and also on exploration, to insure that there is enough being spent on putting new energy sources on line, and that consumers need to be protected from exploitation. Very simply, deregulation has not worked.

In California, a Democratic senator has proposed legislation on a state basis to do just that.

In Wisconsin--- an investigation into price gouging being reported in the Wisconsin State Journal today---- the complaints about price gouging locally have been found to be valid.

What are your thoughts on this re-regulation idea? You make the call.
