Library Corner: 1776 by David McCullough

Just in at the Eager Library is 1776 by David McCullough. It may have been a while since you read a book about the American Revolution. This one traces in depth the development of George Washington as a wartime leader. At first, he had no battlefield experience. After a series of defeats, when it seemed that the cause of liberty was doomed, George Washington led his troops in a strategic withdrawal---and later led them with confidence in a brilliant counterattack. The year 1776 ended with two very improbable victories.

There is a waiting list for this book, but it is well worth the wait. McCullough won the Pulitzer Prize for this book.
