At the Evansville Common Council on Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the City Administrators Report, Bill Connors notes, " I have received many expressions of dissatisfication with the way the city allows citizen input through public hearnings. It has been suggested that the Common Council, Plan Commission, or committee discuss a proposed ordinance among themselves and with staff, so the audience can be better informed, before the public hearing. After the public hearing, the Common Council, Plan Commission, or committee, could discuss the matter further before taking action. The thought is that citizens attending the public hearing could provide more meaningful input if they were allowed to hear more about the proposed ordinance before opening the public hearing. I would be curious as to what the Mayor and Common Council think of this idea."
Well, what do you think?
You also need to voice your opinion to your alderman since this change would be up to the council and not Mr. Connors.
The city council members and planning commission members wonder why there is so much distrust, well its is because they really do not seem to want to have to listen to anything anyone else has to say, but them selves. The public meeting should not even be opened for comments from citizens until they hear the 'whole' story. They hold the public meeting first, with the public knowing very little, then close the public meeting, and then tend to to lay out the information. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. They act like they are scared to let the citizens know what is going on, like we should not be told even though we pay taxes, elect them to office, and expect them to represent US,not the city and they get in their and bend over backwords to do what the city wants. There is a tremendous amount of preasure to vote with the majority. It takes a strong willed, opinionated person to hold these positions and I have not seen anyone on there like that yet. The one person who was like that resigned because he/she was tired of the crap. So YES THEY DO NEED TO ALLOW FOR MORE PUBLIC INPUT. THEY CREATE THE LACK OF TRUST THEMSELVES WITH THE THINGS THEY DO, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DON'T GET THIS.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe they do get it and don't care.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else see in the morning paper that Stoughton voted NO to annex. land for Walmart? WOW, Looks like they know how to listen to their citizens over there.
