Janesville approves outdoor tavern dining--economic development seen

The city of Janesville has approved outdoor dining for the "Looking Glass" tavern in downtown Janesville. After much discussion, there was a general consensus that a downtown friendly outdoor dining atmosphere would aid economic development.

Click on the post for the entire article in the Janesville Gazette. What do you think of similar outdoor dining for Evansville?

I would not want to eat in downtown Evansville outside anywhere. Not with the way things are set up now. It would need to be done very nicely, not just throwing some chairs and tables out there.

I love outdoor dining-it is very popular all over and can be done very nicely. The evening of the Jazz concert at Real Coffee we sat outdoors and listened to the music and it was lovely. I have often thought the strip of land next to the Diner/Truck-Stop on union Street and along the creek, and the area next to the Bauer House sitting right along Allen Creek were opportunities waiting for the right person with inspiration to develope into outdoor dining.
Then in the eyesore restaurant on East Main Street, can't you just see a lovely deck wrapping around towards the back and looking out over the fields with lights and landscaping? The parking lot can be shifted more to the front and/or even a drive-way that circles through the front for easy access from the busy highway. Big inviting windows along the front instead of the ugly little ones - anyway......
I don't know what the negtives are for outside dining....
